Who chooses the music? We've done our research and picked the most iconic Mechanical Organs from around the world. These instruments are playing music from the best arrangers, both past and present. Each track is sorted by instrument size, the organ builder and style and tempo of the tune . This means that when you tune in you will always hear something different. Something for everyone. We've invested in the latest computer technology to deliver a high quality stream that gives amazing sound quality without eating up your internet data.
To give variety, we also feature other types of mechanical music. From Barrel Organs, to Pianolas of all shapes and sizes. Also smaller instruments like Polyphons and Musical Boxes, and impressive Orchestrions and roll playing Theatre Organs. The most popular tracks will get the most plays across a week, and with such a wide database of music, it is possible some tracks would only be heard every few months. Each hour is full of surprises, and we're constantly growing our music database. |
Where do you get your music from?We have been very generously supported by Graham Spencer at Royalmusic Recording Services in the UK and John Van Kleef of Discus Records in the Netherlands, both of which saw the potential for a radio station that plays Mechanical Music and have donated their complete back catalogues. Who runs Mechanical Music Radio?James Dundon from Cornwall, UK, has worked as a radio presenter and programmer his whole life. He also owns a Dutch Street Organ 'Het Blauwtje' which he travels across the country.
At the age of 6, James used to have a twin tape deck and pretend to present an organ music programme in his bedroom! James wants to promote and sustain interest in this wonderful hobby, and he hopes you enjoy the world's first radio station for automatic musical instruments. Mechanical Music Radio is a hobby for James, and he is fully prepared to cover the cost of running it, advertisement free if it gives others enjoyment. He is accepting donations to help out with the estimated £2000 a year costs.
